Anthropological impacts determine the soil fungal distribution of Mediterranean oak stands

چکیده
Quercus pyrenaica-dominated forests are very widely distributed in Mediterranean ecosystems. Traditional forest use, such as coppicing to obtain firewood or livestock grazing under silvopastoral systems, and the current social abandonment of rural environment have given rise structures different ages at stages development. Thus, on one hand, there large areas Q. pyrenaica coppice systems that produce a amount biomass high risk driving fires. On other dehesas, which low tree density composed old trees susceptible types environmental stress serious regeneration problems weak phytosanitary status. In addition, previous studies suggested production economically valuable edible mushrooms is negatively impacted by silvicultural management. To determine effects land management these ecosystems, we analyzed soil fungal communities associated with stands (i.e., high-density coppice), low-density received 15 years ago reduce wildfire), dehesas) assess their potential ecological roles conservation diversity mushrooms. We also edaphic variables (carbon, pH carbon/nitrogen ratio) understand dynamics communities. observed two distinguishable communities: pathogen-, parasite-, endophyte-dominated dehesas saprotroph- ectomycorrhizal (ECM)-dominated stands, mixed composition stands. ECM fungi correlated stand age structure, showing higher richness levels particularly short hyphal exploration type. Finally, influence structure due significantly affected variety some genera, Boletus, Tuber Terfezia.

soil water availability and the renewal of oak forest stands in a coastal mediterranean area: an experimental study
this study was aimed to assess the causes of the structural decline in the renewal rate of apristine oak forest close to rome (central italy) by analyzing long-term measurements of the water budget in open and fenced areas. despite dry climate conditions in the area, long-term soil moisture measurements at 100 cm soil depth indicated that an enough large amount of water is available to oaks dur...
متن کاملVariability of soil chemical characteristics in Oak stands with different dieback
Determination of soil chemical properties variability that affected tree tolerance to stresses can help to manage this environmental phenomenon. In this investigation, for detection of this variation trend, area of affected decline oak trees divided to four groups of control (without Oak decline), slight, middle and severe Oak decline based on tree and branch number per soil surface unit. In ea...
متن کاملUnravelling Soil Fungal Communities from Different Mediterranean Land-Use Backgrounds
BACKGROUND Fungi strongly influence ecosystem structure and functioning, playing a key role in many ecological services as decomposers, plant mutualists and pathogens. The Mediterranean area is a biodiversity hotspot that is increasingly threatened by intense land use. Therefore, to achieve a balance between conservation and human development, a better understanding of the impact of land use on...
متن کاملModelling potential impacts of climate change on the oak spatial distribution (Case study: Ilam and Lorestan provinces)
Examining the effects of climate change on the oak spatial distribution, as the main species of Zagros forests and its ecological and economic values is of significant importance. Here, we used species distribution models for simulating current climatic suitability of oak and its potential changes in 2050 and 2070. For this purpose, five regression-based and machine learning approaches, four cl...
متن کاملThe influence of mature oak stands and spruce plantations on soil-dwelling click beetles in lowland plantation forests
Most European forests have been converted into forest plantations that are managed for timber production. The main goal of this paper was to determine the difference between mature native sessile oak (Quercus petraea) stands and non-indigenous Norway spruce (Picea abies) plantations, with respect to communities of Athous click beetles in approximately 6,500 ha of lowland plantation forest area ...
